by Jenny Morelli
Please understand
that beneath each of our facades
thrums an undercurrent
of pain,
of confusion
of unreleased frustration
or anger or resentment or futility;
of being
the only one
who truly understands
our own pain. Please understand
that each of our smiles is the tip of an iceberg
plunged deep
into an ocean of untapped
emotions anchored to an abyss of darkness.
Please understand
that no matter the size
of our platform or the weight
and the pressure of our following,
that sometimes,
the responsibility we wield,
along with the recognition and respect
and adoration,
it’s still overshadowed
by our own demons dragging us down
deep enough for our
demise.
