From a Better Place

Today I am strong.

Like I could reach into the night

and with one perfect claw

pluck a star from the sky,

like a yielding eye.

Hold it between my teeth.

Feel the heat

of a million million burning years.

Swallow.

Let it slide down my aching throat.

Melt every piece of broken glass

inside me

into molten slag,

glowing, radiant.

The incandescent flow cutting out between ribs,

slowly,

like magma forging a new landscape

using nothing but violence.

Leaving the pit inside me.

Glass settling and cooling on skin.

And I'm here, with claws and teeth

and new scales of iridescent glass.

Today I am strong.
